Objectives: 

• Discuss the institutionalization of racism and white supremacy ideology in the professionalization of nursing and the ways in which nursing has contributed to the reproduction of race across time. 

• Discuss how nurses can more openly engage with critical theories, such as critical race theory and intersectionality, and anti-racist work to achieve racial justice and health equity.

Who Cares? Confronting Whiteness in U.S. Nursing History presented by Cory Ellen Gatrall, BSN, MFA, RN 

Objectives: 

• Learners will gain familiarity with the historical roots of white supremacy in the nursing profession. 

• Learners will understand the roots of the "culture" concept in nursing. 

• Learners will understand how nurses and the nursing profession have been complicit in state sanctioned violence against BIPOC.
