How are Advanced Placement (AP) courses counted toward Local Service Area credit on the nursing application?
To qualify for Local Service Area credit, applicants must have completed at least 6 of the 8 required nursing prerequisite courses at a college/University within one of the designated Local Service Area counties: Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Solano, or Mendocino County.
If an applicant uses an Advanced Placement (AP) exam score to satisfy a nursing prerequisite requirement, the AP prerequisite may count toward the 6-of-8 Local Service Area requirement if the corresponding AP course was completed at a high school located within one of the designated Local Service Area counties.
For example, if a student completed an AP course at a high school in Sonoma County and earned an AP exam score that satisfies Sonoma State University requirements, that prerequisite may be counted as a course completed within the Local Service Area.
Important: Local Service Area credit is based on the location where the AP course was completed, not the location where the AP exam was taken or the college/university that later awarded credit for the AP exam. Applicants may be required to provide documentation verifying where the AP course was completed.
